I’m a ceramic artist from the Netherlands,
located on the Silver Coast of Portugal.

Each of my items are shaped by intuition, imperfection, and experimentation. No two pieces are the same, each with its own character. In my work I find it important to maintain human touch and keep small imperfections visible.

I mainly work with the earthy tones of clay, such as terracotta and warm browns, embracing their rustic and organic character. After finishing a piece, I often imagine leaving it in its natural colour, yet it usually feels like something is missing. I simply cannot do without colour in my life; it brings me joy. This is why I combine the raw surface of the clay with vibrant glazes, adding a playful layer to each piece.

A little bit more about me: 

I graduated from the art academy in Rotterdam in 2016. During this period, I developed a deep passion for crafts and design. A few years after finishing this study, I worked for nearly 5 years as a product designer at a popular Amsterdam based home accessoires brand. My passion for ceramics continued to grow over the years, leading me to establish Studio Elsa.
